About trixie123

I just found this site after all but giving up on getting any help with all I need done.  Because of a hereditary condition, I have had dentures since I was 12 years old.  Now in my 40's, collecting disability & no insurance coverage, my jaw bone is severly "thinned" or "shrunken" to the point where I need bone grafts to strengthen it to normal size.  In addition, I need metal "posts" put in the new jaw (both upper & lower) to hold the new dentures in place.  The oral surgeon says it will be about $20,000.00 for his part alone.  The dentist says it will be about the same amount for him.  Apparently they will work together on this project because both specialties are required.   I barely have any gum line left so eating is becoming increasingly difficult as is speech.  This condition gets worse the longer I wait as the bone continues to deteriorate.  There is also pain affecting my jaw, TMJ's & headaches. This condition has really effected my life physically, mentally, socially to say the least.  I was told that the entire process would take about a year to complete (considering surgery & healing time).  Since I am struggling financially now, I cannot make any plans to begin this ordeal.  I fear that my jaw may break easily with just a simple accident, too much pressure or just with time.  I have never heard of any one else having to deal with this as both parent & grandparent died young.  This is such a painful & embarrassing subject for me.  I never talk about it & have never written about it until now.  I hope that by coming forward, some good may come out of this after all.  Thanks for reading my story.

I feel your pain. I am 44 and due to a sinuse infection I had when I was just 25 (infection lasted 2yrs) I lost all my teeth by age 27 (infection ate the roots of my teeth and left most my jawbone mush). I have worn dentures sinse, well 1 year ago my jaw snapped. I have seen dentist and oral surgens, both agree I should have bone grafts done but none have faith in it helping much. My current dentist will do 4 post at a huge discount (compared to everyone else's prices it is) $4000. I have insurance, but they consider "post" for dentures to cosmetic. Insurance will help with bone graft but still would not cover the cost for post. I am a single dad and my kids live with me, I cannot afford even the discount price. I cant afford to take a trip to Mexico and would be too nervouse of the outcome if I did go. I am too looking for a Govt grant, denture school, anything that would help. I have to keep my lower denture in, even at night, because I clinch my jaw alot. The last time it snapped, I was eating a peice of pizza.

I hope you find some help, just know you are not alone.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you are in such pain.  Please click on the link in my profile to learn about an affordable discount plan that may be able to save you on your procedures, both dental and medical.  I know the amount of money and the amount of work may seem impossible to overcome, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.  Best wishes, Rosie
